'Garudan Thookkam', literally means hanging garuda (eagle god), is a ritual mainly performed in the temples in South Kerala. It is conducted as a votive offering. In Garudan Thookam, the dancers in the costume of garuda dance to the accompaniment of percussion instruments. At the end, the dancer climbs into a cart, circumambulates the temple and donates blood.
Here,Garudan Thookkam is performed on road, in a rally held at Calicut town, with a relevant banner: "Diffusing an atom bomb may be easier, but never is a superstition!"
